June 2023
How We Met
Their story began at a chess competition in June 2023. Among the players at the competition, Wura stood out. She was the only female chess player there, confidently putting herself out there and competing alongside everyone else. That was what first caught Aaron's attention. To him, it said something about her. She was willing to stand out, show up and hold her own, and that first impression stayed with him. He later noticed her name, "Wura," written on her chess board and pasted underneath every piece. Armed with her name and a little courage, he finally walked over and asked, "Wura, you're Wura, right?" He introduced himself and, in what was perhaps the most chess-player way possible, asked for her Lichess username instead of her phone number. 😂 Unfortunately, Wura was so distracted by how handsome he was that she barely registered anything else he said, including his name. 😭 They later crossed paths again at a restaurant, where Aaron collected her number. But then… silence. He didn't reach out until January 2024, giving Wura over four months to wonder about and search for this mysterious man she had affectionately named "Mystery Man." Little did she know, the mystery was about to be solved.
January 2024
Their First Date
In January 2024, Aaron bought some chess sets from Wura's brother, who asked Wura to deliver them to him. The moment Aaron walked into the room to collect the chess board, Wura was shocked. It was him. The Mystery Man. 😂 The person she had been wondering about for months was standing right there. That unexpected reunion sparked a conversation that eventually became something much more. And on January 14, 2024, they went on their first date. What started with chess, a missed introduction and a very delayed message became the beginning of their relationship.
January 3, 2026
Meeting Her Parents
As their relationship became more serious, Wura told her parents about Aaron. Her dad asked to meet him, and Aaron came prepared to make his intentions clear. He assured him that his intentions were genuine and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Wura. With their families aware of their relationship and their intentions becoming clearer, they continued building their relationship together.
July 19, 2026
The Proposal
After more than two years of growing together, creating memories and building a life they both wanted, Aaron finally asked the question. On July 19, 2026, he asked Wura to marry him. And this time, the answer was much easier than getting her Lichess username. 😂 She said YES!
August 28, 2026
Formal Introduction
Their journey eventually grew from just the two of them to the joining of their families. Although Aaron formerly took Wura to meet his family on December 14, 2024, and on January 3, 2026, he officially met Wura’s parents. On August 28, 2026, both families came together for their formal family introduction ceremony, marking another beautiful step towards becoming one family.
November 27, 2026
Wedding and Forever
And now, here they are. From a chess competition in June 2023, to a mysterious man, a delayed message, a first date, family meetings, an introduction and a proposal… their story has led them here. On November 27, 2026, Wura and Aaron will say “I do” and begin the next chapter of their lives together. The game that brought them together was chess, but this is one game they never want to end. Here’s to Wura and Aaron, to love, friendship, family and forever. ♟️❤️
